Murray-Darling Basin Plan amendments
The Murray-Darling Basin Authority is calling for public submissions on amendments to the Murray-Darling Basin Plan. Proposed amendments include reducing the water recovery target in the Northern Basin from 390 to 320 gigalitres, an increase the volume of water that can be taken from groundwater sources, as well as other amendments concerning a range of technical matters (including water trading).
EDOs of Australia have written numerous submissions and blogs regarding the importance of sustainably managing water resources in the Murray-Darling Basin and protecting the Basin’s 16 internationally listed wetlands. The Authority is holding information sessions across NSW, including Aboriginal community information sessions. The information sessions will run from November 2016 to February 2017. View a full list of sessions.
Submissions are invited until Friday 24 February 2017.
