Featured Opportunity - Landholder compensation for gas exploration and production
As part of the NSW Gas Plan, the NSW Government has asked the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) to recommend benchmark compensation rates for landholders in NSW hosting coal seam gas developments
These benchmarks are to guide landholders in negotiating compensation agreements with industry.
IPART has released an Issues Paper which sets out the key issues that it is seeking stakeholder input on. These include:
- Identifying the impacts that landholders should be compensated for;
- Estimating compensation payments; and
- Estimating benefit payments
The review will look solely at compensation benchmarks to be used as a guide for negotiations between landholders and gas companies. The granting of licences, environmental controls, extraction techniques and the impacts of gas development on local communities are outside the scope of IPART’s review.
Submissions on the Issues Paper are invited until Friday 29 May 2015. Read more and have your say.
